The Prodigy Music Video Analysis

Unknown-8.jpeg

The music video I am going to analyse is by the Prodigy. I have chosen to analyse this music video for a number of reasons, the first being that it fits the genre which we want to make our music video from. The fast pace and the frequent drops in the music matches the type of song we want to make our video about.

The first part of the song I would like to pick up on is the quick edits between the shots and the way the camera shots are quick and short to match the pace of the song. If the camera were long, then it would not seem right to audience and may even come across as boring. The frequent change of camera angles and shots makes the audience more interested in the video and even keeps them watching.

Another huge part of the video is the flashing lights which are shown at the live performances throughout the whole video. This effect is very popular in this type of genre, as we are planning our music video we plan to add in lots of flashing lights. It also suits the song type that is being performed. Once again it adds to the excitement and interest to the person who is watching.

Throughout the video there is a number of close up camera shots of the main singer/actor of the video. This can be found as quite intimidating especially with the way he looks and his hair style. An example of this is the picture to the right in which the performer is very close, close enough to see the sweat on his face. You can also see his eyes looking straight towards the camera, this is an attempt to try and connect to the viewer who is watching. This also adds to the intimidation that the viewer may feel, it almost feels like he is actually staring at you through the screen.

To the right of this is another example of the performer trying to connect with the viewer, you can see he is staring at the camera while walking towards it. It also has a reference to a horror film where the camera cuts and he is suddenly closer to the camera. The song is called Omen which does relate to many horror films and it could have been deliberately put in to try and spook the viewer. With clips of the performers staring into he camera actually draws the attention of the audience and so it stops it from becoming boringScreen Shot 2016-02-26 at 12.00.04.png
