Pendulum digi pak analysis

Pendulum Digi Pak analysis:

In Silico album, very different Pendulums second from the first had blue chipboard at the back of the multi-coloured circle; it also has a baby in the middle of the circle. The shade black in the background shows one of the main colours in pendulums videos. `There is nothing else on it that could determine anything about pendulum. The front of the album cover contains many vibrant colours and looks and feels as if there is an energy coming from it, which links to the way their music sounds. This idea of energy is also clear from the cover as the outer bit looks like a circuit board brining energy to the middle. The back of the album is plain and clear; it lists the songs and has reference to the record label and producers at the bottom. Both aspects of this digipak may be seen as unconventional as the usual focus of the cover and advert is to promote the artist and get their face out there, however for Pendulum the music is able to do all the promoting itself. This is seen frequently in this genre as artist image comes second after sound.

The front of the album creates a sense that they are creating something, as you can see there is a growing baby in the middle; this signifies the growing of something, the growth of the energy passed from the music into something or someone. The fact the back of the cd is plain allows the front of the feel more vibrant.

Songs on the album:

  • Showdown
  • Different
  • Propane nightmares
  • Visions
  • Midnight Runner
  • The Other Side
  • Mutiny
  • 9,000 Miles
  • Granite
  • The Tempest

The songs on this album all link to a sense of a psychedelic battle, perhaps with a person that’s not actually there (visions) this immediately leads the viewer or buyer to know there will be a lot of fast paced songs to keep up with song names like ‘midnight runner’ or showdown’ . The song name ‘The Other Side’ also link to a sense of paranoia that someone has crossed to a different realm through drugs, perhaps this is why he or she is having ‘Propane nightmares’ and ‘Visions’.

The artwork on the advert is the same as the CD cover; also the font is the same which creates a sense of synergy between the two pieces of the digipak. The use of the same photo for both, presents a sense of a preview for the album, to prepare the fans. The fact the text is larger really makes the album name stand out and show its’ importance. It also notifies fans of the hit songs which appear on the album which promotes song sales on top of album sales. It also adds about bonus features including ‘exclusive downloads’ to make the album even more appealing for consumers to buy. Both the CD cover and the advert show credits to the record label Pendulum are signed to (Warner Brothers). This adds value to the product as WB is a well-known company with a successful brand image, having this on the cover offers a further reason to buy as it carries the name of a good company so expected is that it’ll represent the name well with a good album.
